How To Decide Which Wedding Tent Option Is Best For You

So, you’ve decided that you are going to have a tented backyard wedding; now what? Now is the time to hire a professional and have a Toronto wedding planner help you clearly understand your wedding tent options. With so many factors to consider, it is easy to be confused about which type of tent is the best option for you.

The Different Type Of Wedding Tents in Toronto

From pole tents to frame-style tents, there are several different options to choose from for your tented wedding in Toronto. That is why I am here to share some insight into picking the best wedding tent option for your event!

Pole Tents

Pole tents are an elegant wedding tent option for your backyard wedding. They are designed with a pole in the middle of the structure, often with stretch material above. For a Pole tent wedding, it does mean having posts on the inside of the tent. Therefore, you will need to consider those when creating your floor plan. With the supporting poles on the inside, your dance floor might not be centred, and tables may not be evenly spaced. With that being said, they provide a higher ceiling and elevated appearance.

Frame Tents

Frame tents are designed with poles on the perimeter of the tent and have the option of having a transparent top versus a white top and clear walls versus white walls. Having the poles on the perimeter of the tent allows more freedom with your floor plan but can also come at a higher cost.

When choosing a frame tent, you will need to decide if it will have a white top versus a clear top. White tops are classic and help keep the sun off everyone, especially if your wedding falls on a warm spring or summer day. However, the clear top tents allow more light in, especially in the evening. The one shortfall with a clear top tent is it can trap the heat on a hot summer’s day and make it feel warmer inside the tent. This can then affect your cake, flowers or decor.

A while back, I was assisting another planner with a wedding that had a clear top tent, and this happened to us. Their design included fresh palm leaves as the charger plates, which was to look beautiful. However, it wasn’t until we set the last table that we realized the first table’s palm leaves were starting to burn. We quickly pulled them all off the tables and waited just before the guests sat down for the reception to place them again. Keep in mind that this took place on a scorching summer day, but it is something you will need to think about if having a clear top tent. Ask yourself, is there anything that will be set up in the tent that might melt or burn, such as flowers, candles, cake, sweets, etc.? This is why having a Toronto wedding planner on board for your wedding day is vital. Your planner will speak with your vendor team and be on call should anything need to be changed last minute without compromising your wedding day vision.

Logistics Of A Tented Wedding Reception

There are many elements to consider when planning a backyard-tented wedding in Toronto. Check out our recent blog post, where I share the top six things to consider when planning a tented wedding

One of the most important things to factor in your wedding planning is the cost of a tent. Along with aesthetics, size and logistics, the price can often impact your decision-making process.

Some elements, such as the rental period, can significantly affect your budget for a tented wedding. Many tents are delivered days in advance to allow time for set up and removal. The earlier your tent arrives, the more time other vendors have to set up the remaining decor and rentals. That is why I always recommend a rental that starts three days before your wedding, as that then allows one to two days to finish everything else.

When working with your Toronto wedding planner, be sure to ask them which wedding tent options are best for you and your event. Every budget is different, and every event is unique, so you truly cannot go wrong! If you are newly engaged and want to plan a backyard-tented wedding, I’d love to help!
