How The Wedding Boom Is Impacting Ontario Weddings

There is no doubt about it that the wedding industry is in the midst of a wedding boom. Whether you are having an Ontario wedding or a destination wedding, the global wedding industry has taken a significant hit during the pandemic and is now playing catch up.

Below I want to help you better understand the current state of the Ontario wedding industry and how this may impact your wedding planning and overall wedding budget.

The Current State Of The Ontario Wedding Industry

  1. Wedding vendors are booking up further in advance compared to previous years. So, if you have a vendor in mind, be sure to reach out sooner than later.

  2. Due to inflation, the overall pricing for goods has gone up, so, like everyone else, small businesses have had to increase their package pricing to accommodate the increased price of gas and goods.

  3. Thanks to the wedding boom, vendors are crazy busy. We are currently catching up with all the postponements from the last two years while also managing new clients. So please be patient and kind and expect longer wait times for replies.

How To Manage Wedding Planning During The Wedding Boom

Beyond having a big cup of patience, understanding and starting the wedding planning process early, I recommend working with an experienced Ontario wedding planner.

An experienced wedding planner will help take the stress out of the planning process for you by managing the correspondence with your vendors. For example, suppose your Ontario wedding planner has a good relationship with your vendors. In that case, they may be able to help speed up the average response time and help ease any communication issues. A wedding planner will also help guide you through the budgeting process and help ensure you remain on budget as best as possible.

How To Budget For Your Wedding During The Wedding Boom

  1. Before beginning the wedding planning process, I recommend you and your fiancé sit down and finalize a budget. Knowing what areas of the wedding are the most important to you and which areas will take priority in your budget is helpful.

  2. Ensure you have a list of a few vendors that you like their service and are within your budget, as you may not get your first choice. I recommend getting quotes from each vendor from your list before booking anyone to ensure they fit your wedding vision and fall within budget.

  3. If you are expecting approximately 150 people at your wedding in Ontario, your budget will need to be closer to $50k. Sadly the days of $20K weddings for 150 people are long gone.

Three Ways To Save On Your Wedding in 2023

1. This may be an obvious one but reduce your guest count. Your overall costs can be significantly reduced with fewer people to feed and fewer heads at your tables.

2. Think of alternatives to traditional decor and florals. For example, consider silk florals or repurposing items from your ceremony to your reception to reduce the cost of duplicates.

3. Determine your budget and priorities before beginning planning. Knowing your high priority and high ticket items in advance will give you a more realistic understanding of your remaining budget. This remaining budget can then be used for additional vendors like florals, music and decor.

Thanks to the wedding boom, the state of the current wedding industry has changed significantly. However, wedding planning is still very manageable if approached with an open and understanding mindset.
