A Dark & Moody Fall Barn Wedding

Maddi and Brett’s fall barn wedding took place on a beautiful fall day in October. Maddi first contacted me in the summer of 2021 as a referral from her cousin, whose wedding I helped plan back in 2019. I was excited to help Maddi and Brett with their wedding, as it was to take place on the same family property as her cousin’s wedding.

Maddi and Brett hired me for Wedding Day Management. The couple had done most of the planning for their fall barn wedding themselves. I was asked to come along and help bring all of the plans together and work with their wedding vendor team on the day of.

Planning A Fall Barn Wedding

Leading up to the wedding day, I had several online meetings with Maddi and even did a few walk-throughs of the property. It was great to help re-familiarize myself with the space, as it had been several years since my last visit.

I love working with creative brides with a distinct wedding vision, and Maddi was no exception to this; she was very creative. Maddi made all the bouquets, florals for the arch, and centrepieces. For their fall barn wedding reception, they had custom labels on the wine bottles, and all guests had their names in wood carvings for their place settings. The design vision was dark, moody and beautiful. Maddi and Brett are big lovers of Halloween, so they incorporated some Halloween décor into their design.

About two weeks before the wedding, the original caterers cancelled on the couple. Thankfully, Kent Catering stepped in and provided a delicious buffet dinner which everyone enjoyed.

On The Wedding Day

When I arrived the morning of the wedding, Maddi, Brett and their wedding party had the barn all set and ready. Everything looked beautiful and exactly how the couple had envisioned, from the guest tables to the barn wedding decor.

Hair and makeup went smoothly and finished ahead of schedule, which was great! This allowed for more wedding party photos to be done before the ceremony.

The Ceremony

For the ceremony, the bridesmaids were driven out to the field where the ceremony took place and arrived in the back of a truck. While Maddi, the bride, arrived at the ceremony with her dad in a classic car. Maddi met her mom at the entrance of the aisle and walked down with both of her parents. The ceremony was beautiful, with sweet vows exchanged and sealed with a kiss.

The Reception

Following the ceremony, guests proceeded to the barn, where they were met with tasty treats from Muster Point and frozen beverages from Bubble & Fizz. During the cocktail reception, Maddi, Brett, and families stepped away for photos with Katie from Born to be Photography.

Once dinner was finished, Maddi and Brett cut their wedding cake and exchanged bites. It was then time for their first dance. The fun and upbeat music had everyone on the dance floor for the remainder of the evening.

As a wedding planner, it is always an honour to be asked back to help marry additional family members. I loved being back on this family property and working with Maddi and Brett on their dark, moody, romantic fall barn wedding!
